Cecilia Cortes

Cecilia began her dancing career in her native Santiago, Chile at the early age of six years old, studying classical ballet.

In 1980, she passed strict exams to join the National Opera House (Teatro Municipal) to study classical ballet for one year.

In 1984, she joined the Ministry of Education School of Arts to study modern dance, where after three years, she was awarded the Certificate of Modern Dance. In 1987 she moved to Sydney, Australia. She married and gave birth to two daughters and took a break from her career for six years to fully attend to her children.

In 1993, she joined the British Ballet Organization (BBO) accredited Macquarie Ballet and Stage Center as a student and assistant teacher. She was awarded the Pre-elementary (1994) and Elementary (1995) Classical Ballet certificates for teachers. She was also awarded the Pre-elementary (1995) and Elementary (1996) Modern Jazz certificates for teachers.

From 1993 until 1996 she enjoyed performing and competing as a student, as well as, a teacher of individuals and groups.

Before she left Australia, she opened a successful dance studio, teaching jazz and classical ballet to forty-two students of various ages and levels. She performed with the students, taught them, and choreographed their dances for the end-of-year concert

Cecilia came to Michigan in 1998. Since 1999 she has been studying classical ballet with Christina Kammuller, a former principal ballerina with a company in Brazil.

Cecilia is also a graduate of Celler Institute (Chile) with a Certificate in Special Education, with a major in Mental Deficiency.
